Nodds & Nends: Darth Vadar Tutu Dress, DC Scandal, Geeky Bras

Geeky bras for boyfriends. I’m not really why wearing bras are just for boyfriends, that statement makes so many stupid assumptions I don’t even know where to start. First of all, I don’t wear a bra daily for anyone other than myself and my own comfort. Secondly, if you are wearing a bra for someone else it isn’t necessarily for a boyfriend. Thirdly, if I were to wear a geeky bra it would be for myself and not for anyone else.
Darth Vadar tutu dress. Yes, you heard me right.
DC scandal over ads and claiming that girls are not real geeks. This makes me mad, baugh. I really get annoyed that people assume just because a girl is pretty and interested in geeky things, it is to get attention. Yes, please let’s keep assuming things about geeky girls the things they like and the bras they wear. This isn’t getting old or anything. However, because of this scandal I did come across this wonderful article about how anyone who wants to be a geek gets to be a geek. My favorite line is this:
When a hipster sees someone else grooving on the thing they love, their reaction is to say “Oh, crap, now the wrong people like the thing I love.” When a geek sees someone else grooving on the thing they love, their reaction is to say “ZOMG YOU LOVE WHAT I LOVE COME WITH ME AND LET US LOVE IT TOGETHER.”

I know I make assumptions every day, but I do try to be aware of when I do it. And I do have some red button issues that catch my eye-re (see what I did there?
) when people make assumptions.

Pffft to bras for boyfriends! I’m with you on that one.
Adrienne Kress has an excellent article on girls and geek culture as well.

OK, color me weird, but when I saw “Geeky bras for boyfriends” the first thing that popped into my head was some hairy guy named Bubba in a Darth Vader bra. I think I need to get more sleep..

My pleasure. No sense keeping all the nonsense in my head where it doesn’t do any good

You know… I just had to click on the link for the Vader tutu… my eyes can’t un-see that LOL
RE girls being geeks… I don’t understand why people should have a problem with that. I’ve met some fun, intelligent, attractive geeky women and my only complaint was that they weren’t the slightest bit interested in me at the time LOL

That is a problem with the internets, often we can’t unsee things.
I hope with the conscious effort of people to talk about and question how people are treated at cons there will be a shift in behavior from people (if not a shift in thinking).
