Gray Hair, Causation, and Barbie in a Bottle

My life may not be exactly where I thought it would when I entered law school six years ago seeing as I work two jobs just to make ends meet now to pay off that law school debt, but in one area of life I am very blessed. I have a great group of friends both that I’ve met personally and those I’ve met on the internets. I hate the term real life versus online life. The people I’ve connected with over the years through my blog are very real, I just haven’t met them. . . yet. The moments in my life, right now, that make me the happiest are those moments when I realize, my friends really get me. Even if they think I’m weird. This is true for my online friends and my I’ve-known-you-since-we-played-home-school-soccer-at-age-11-and-your-brother-wore-a-red-bandanna-which-i-thought-was-weird-but-when-he-does-it-now-its-somewhat-cool-which-is-weird friends.
The other evening I was on Twitter at the same time as one of my Australian online friends, Stephanie from RIASS, which is rare indeed. First that I was on Twitter, because I’m really bad about my presence on that site, but secondly, that I was on the same time as Stephanie. We started talking about graying hair and higher education.
It made me laugh that Stephanie was talking about higher academia’s connection to graying hair and used the very academic term of “correlation.” So, I really couldn’t help myself. After all I am pay an exorbitant amount of money to be able to use legal jargon correctly.
See, my friends get me and Stephanie totally made my day. Shortly thereafter, I saw this Barbie in a Bottle craft on Pinterest that just cracked me up and I had to share it with my best friend Sara.
Me: I want to do this. Only I don’t have bottles … or Barbies.
Sara: . . . you want to stick a barbie in a sprite bottle?
Me: Yes! And paint the sprite bottle or something. Maybe make a fun float. How cool!
Sara: You are strange.
Me: I know, right?
That’s when it hit me.
Me:
I’ll send an SOS to the world
I’ll send an SOS to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
Barbie in a bottle, yeah
Barbie in a bottle, yeah
Sara: …… You are SO WEIRD
Me: Thank you!
My friends get me, even if they think I’m weird.

Aw, I’m glad that you think I’m real and not just a very convincing bot. Particularly since I always fail the Captcha Turing Test.
That Barbie Doll message in a bottle thing cracked me up. I always love imaging what archaeologists of the future are going to make of our society. “Clearly, placing small figurines with exaggerated features into containers and setting them afloat had important ritualistic purpose. Possibly something to do with warding off grey hair, an affliction experienced only by lawyers and writers.”
