Disney Characters In Nerdy Costumes

Check out Nerdist’s posting on cartoon characters in nerdy Halloween characters as imagined and drawn by Isaiah Stephens. Check out his other work on DeviantArt and Tumblr. Such as his imaginings of the Magic School Bus Kids All Grown Up. Some amazing artwork here folks! But my favorite so far is his Mulan as Xena, so much nerdy girl warrior goodness I’m about to explode!!!

Disney Princesses as Game of Thrones Characters

Have you all seen this? Disney Princesses as Game of Thrones characters, woot for a great geeky mash-up. I’ll admit I probably don’t get all the nuances because I have a cursory understanding of the characters, but mash-ups will always equal awesome in my mind and these are some really pretty ones to boot. These beautiful illustrations are the result of DjeDjehuti on deviantArt. [via The Mary Sue]

Thanks to Sara for sending these my way. Sara you are right, seeing Belle’s side boob is very strange.

Disney Dudez Boy Band

While not the best at lip syncing, these cute singing boys decide to start a boy band after the Disney Princesses dump them. (Basically they remix the well known songs for each prince/princess.) I’m pretty sure most of these boys would rather be dating drag queens than actual princesses, but the song remixes are cute and the dancing is fun. (Thanks to JohnMichael S. for the tip.)

Nodds & Nends: Weddings, Monster Uterus, and Sesame Street

The Mary Sue had a whole posting on one geeky couples Little Mermaid -Disney themed wedding. The Bridesmaids dressed up like the other Disney Princesses. I must say, I do like how colorful the wedding is. Plus outside weddings are always pretty. Even when they are sticky with heat.

On Hack a Day, these really geeky wedding invitations came with a hidden message. Now that is my kind of geek.

I discovered I’m not the only one who thinks of her uterus as a monster. Check out this illustration of one on Head Trip, one of my favorite webcomics. And not just because she has red hair.

Jim Butcher sold rights to a steampunk series that he is still writing. It really sounds awesome. While I love the Dresden Files series, I’m not a fan of his fantasy series Codex Alera (too Madonna vs. the Whore for me), so I’ll be interested to see what this new series is like. Here is the blurb from Publishers Weekly:

Penguin Group is continuing its relationship with bestselling fantasy writer Jim Butcher. The author of the Dresden Files and Codex Alera closed a seven-figure, three-book deal with his current publisher for a new series. Anne Sowards, at Roc, took world English rights to The Cinder Spires: The Aeronaut’s Windlass, and two sequels, from agent Jennifer Jackson at Donald Maass Literary. Butcher recently published the 14th book in the Dresden Files, a series that has been adapted to TV (on SyFy channel) and turned into a comic book (published by Dynamite Entertainment). The Cinder Spires, Jackson said, is set in a world “of black spires that tower for miles over a mist-shrouded surface” and follows a war between two of the Spires: Spire Albion and Spire Aurora.

Also, found on the internets this week, ZOMBIE BUNNIES OF CHOCOLATELY GOODNESS. I repeat CHOCOLATE ZOMBIE BUNNIES!!! It isn’t April Fools yet, so I’m going to believe this is real.

Speaking of bunnies. My best friend’s brother created a fan video for a contest to be the official video of the band The Birthday Massacre. My best friend stars and my brother-in-law helped with graphics. I’m obviously biased, but it is a cool video and only takes five minutes to watch and a second to give it a thumbs up. Also, a real bunny makes an appearance! Bonus points.

But the best thing I found on the internets recently (i.e. The Mary Sue’s twitter feed), Joseph Gordon-Levitt is on Sesame Street. It is as adorable and as awesome as you think it will be.

Nodds & Nends: Baring Skin, Gender Bender, and Fairy Tale Inspired Shoes

Does baring skin mean you’re stupid? A psychological look at the reasons calling women fake geek girls is hurtful. This is a really well written piece and goes into many of the side issues that don’t get talked about often. Things I’ve been pointing out on the internets and in real life for a while, just said much more well (I can’t help myself).

Some cool Gender Bender stuff that I’ve found. The first one is Jennifer Lawrence as Thor. Though I agree with The Mary Sue, not sure why they bared her midriff.  Seems like prime stabbing space now.

If  you’re a writer, cut the bullshit and say you are. An interesting and encouraging piece by Daniel Dalton on claiming what you are.

Speaking of writing and books, I stumbled onto this image of how one person views libraries.  Not as a bunch of dusty books with the library Dewey decimal tag on them, but a world full of wonder. My favorite place downtown is the library. It’s massive and magical.

Check out these shoes (and by shoes she means impossibly high heels that I would never be able to wear even if I do think they are pretty awesome) that have been inspired by Disney’s representation of fairy tales and stories. [via Picture Me Reading]

Finally, Carol Burnett does a Star Trek Gender Bender sketch. While I personally think it plays a little too much into stereotype gender roles to get laughs, it’s a unique and funny sketch. [via The Mary Sue]

Nodds & Nends: Disney Cosplay, Nerdy PSAs, and Book Cakes

Disney Princess Cosplay including Aurora (I think she gets left out all too often). I love the costumes, they are quite good. But I do think the big buildings in the background kind of detract from the overall aesthetics. Which is sad, but understandable. And this Little Mermaid illustration is so lovely I had to share it. I know I put up a lot of Ariel, but what can I say? I have a soft spot for red heads.

The new Star Trek movie pictures have been on the internets for a while, but in case you haven’t stumbled onto them already, here they are. I’m looking forward to this. Is it mainly because the movie will have Cumberbatch in it? Yes, yes it is. I wont even deny it. But I did like the first one that J.J. Abrams directed and I hear this one is to have some cameos. So I’m fairly excited about this movie.

I love finding nerdy wedding cakes, but I especially enjoy this book version because I think it is classy and could be changed for each couple according to their tastes in reading. [via RIASS]

Finally, watch these nerdy PSAs. You are welcome.

Nodds & Nends: Fantasy Houses, Zombie Love Stories, and Nathan Fillion

Sometimes when I need a pick me up I go onto Pinterest and look at pretty places I will never see. Like this fantasy house. Puurrrty. This tree door is amazing, the door itself is so intricate let alone to have been so integrated to scenery around it, I’m in awe. Or how about this tree train tunnel, it is gorgeous! And this cabin in the woods is way less scary than Joss Wedon’s and has huge lovely windows.

The Mary Sue has a trailer on it for an upcoming movie, Warm Bodies a story about a zombie who falls in love and starts to heal himself. Honestly, when I write that out it sounds really hokey, but it actually looks like a good movie. Plus it has a decent cast of actors, including Nicholas Holt, I love that kid. Well, except for his sociopathic teenager character in Skins (UK), he’s just creepy there. Warm Bodies should be opening February 1, 2013.

Here is an awesome four paneled illustration of Nathan Fillion as his movie/geeky idols.

These smiling Disney Princesses are ones I have dubbed, barely clothed Disney Princesses. Enjoy.

Myths and Fairy Tales, Including Disney’s True Love

This picture of Poseidon is awe inspiring, both in its composition and subject.

Snow White and Rose Red in front of the fire.

Disney Princesses in vintage clothing. For once, the Disney Princesses with more clothing rather than less.
