I Say Whatever Like a Hipster

A recent convert to listening to podcasts while getting other menial tasks done, I shared a recent find (thanks to Stephanie) with my best friend the podcast produced by NPR called Pop Culture Happy Hour.

Sara:  I always feel smarter after listening to NPR. It really doesn’t matter what the subject was.

Me: I don’t know that I feel smarter, but they have interesting discussions. I think I’m supposed to feel smarter, but I refuse to follow fads even of the intellect kind.

Sara: What fad is this?

Me: Listening to NPR because it makes you feel smarter and therefore you are superior to other people.  That fad.

Sara: I swear to God, sometimes you are such a hipster.

Hipster2

Feeling a little put out (but also giggling) I decided to see what Facebook had to say about my hipster tendencies.

Chris: Ha Ha! Hipster.

Me: Whatever.

Chris: Wow. You even say “Whatever,” like a hipster.

I banged my head on my desk from laughing so hard. Now I have a bruise. Thanks a lot Chris.

Trekkies Here Are Some Happies

Star Trek Peg People. Obviously these are hand painted originals. But they are awesome and if I ever have kids I’m so doing this. Actually I may commission my sister to do this. She’s the professional artist after all. Unfortunately they are no longer available for sale on Etsy.

Hipster Star Trek is just a little too cool for school, and for me. What is with the plaid skinnies? On Spock.

Star Trek Gender Swap is cool, and I like the art style also. Good movement in the illustration.

Harry Potter Characters as Hipsters

Hipster Hermoine, Ron, and Harry are too adorable for words. And normally adorable is not the word I use for hipsters. Check out the artist’s deviantArt site- Rotaevia

Indie Nerd Movie Looks Funny

Some nerds in Austin, TX have decided to make a movie about The Greatest Dungeon Master of all time. The Movie is titled Zero Charisma.

“Scott Weidemeier spends his time in exactly three ways: working a menial job at a local donut shop, caring for his abusive grandmother, and running The Greatest Dungeons & Dragons Game of All Time.  Though overbearing and short-tempered, Scott is a hero to his fellow players–that is, until neo-nerd hipster Miles Butler joins the game, fueling Scott’s rampant insecurity and alienating him from his own players.  Can Scott overcome his contempt for the mainstreaming of nerdery, or will this clash of the subcultures come to a head?”

They are funding their movie through the Internet site IndieGoGo. So far they have exceeded their goal, but I bet they could use a bit more money.

Neo Nerd Hipster Douchebag, greatest name calling ever!

The Future is More Hipsters

A show that my Mom got me hooked on is The New Adventures of Old Christine staring Julia Louis-Dreyfus (which is not nerdy). Playing Old Christine’s brother, Matthew, is Hamish Linklater who is set to star in a new indie/hipster/supernatural movie, The Future. In this movie, Linklater spends his time talking to the moon, which answers him back, while the story is narrated by their cat “Paws.” It looks like a cute indie flick with a bit of a sci fi bent. What intrigued me about the clip was that it’s the type of movie that rarely ever gets made. This is not a movie about after the inevitable Hollywood break-up before the final hook-up, it’s a story about life where people have relationship troubles and actually spend the time to work on them. This is no Gerard Butler making multiple sexist remarks until the last five minutes of the movie where he wins over Katherine Heigl in a hot air balloon. It looks like real people who have real problems for always, like you know, life.
