Nodds & Nends: Top TV 2015, Quidditch Beer Pong, Miniatures, and a Troll T-Shirt

Check out this article by NerdBastards for their Top Ten TV Shows of 2015. I have to say, the one’s I’ve watched at that list, I do love. I may need to check out the others.

You can buy a Quidditch Beer Pong set, once they manufacture more that is, they are currently sold out. Still. This is a thing, peeps. [via The Mary Sue]

I read this really cool article on WordPress Discover about Photographing Miniature Worlds and Jennifer Nichole Wells. A cool article and she makes some amazing scenes. I just love them! I’m totally into miniatures now after making so many cool things for my nieces. I may have to start my own haunted doll house or something.

Bittersweet Icecream

I saw this shirt on Facebook and thought some of you all might like it. Another hurt only nerds/dorks/geeks/fandoms will feel. I definitely am going to need to add this to my collection. Here’s a link to buy this OMG It’s R2D2! I loved Him in Star Trek t-shirt. You are welcome.

Who will hate this?

Doctor Who Fans: That is a Dalek, not R2D2

Star Wars Fans: That is a Dalek, not R2D2, and R2D2 was in Star Wars, not Star Trek.

Star Trek Fans: The images on this have nothing to do with Star Trek. R2D2 is from Star Wars. For some reason these fandoms hate each other. The image is of a Dalek which is a Doctor Who icon.

Who will love this?

Me.

Anyone with a sense of humor.

People who like to troll the geek/nerd/dork/fandom community for being so uptight about their fandoms.

The Perot Museum and Instagram

If you’all aren’t following me on Instagram you should be. I find posting pictures there super simple and they show up on Facebook, Twitter, and this website. What? So easy. Plus I have downloaded a grid app and love playing with filters. So, I’m probably most active on that right now seeing as I started a new job and life is once again about setting up a new routine.

One place that I took a ton of pictures of was a visit to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science here in Dallas. It is awesome! The museum is well laid out, we started at the top after taking an escalator up to the fourth floor. The escalator runs along the side of the building and you can stare out over Dallas as you ride it to the top. This was both cool and terrified the part of my brain that is deathly scared of heights. We also went through the Sherlock Holmes exhibit as Rebekah (Chris’ sister not picture here) and I both love Sherlock. We enjoyed the exhibit though it was chalk full of people and picture taking was not so easy. I did get one photo of a phonograph. So, yah, super exciting photo. The exhibit had us learn how to conduct “experiments” so we could view the clues and try to solve the case. It was confusing and people kept getting in the way. I got four out of five areas correct, but came to the correct conclusion anyway. I would love to go back and do that exhibit when a bajillion people aren’t standing in my way.

Here are my top pics of the day.

Pinterest Board: Aww Eetz Coooot (AKA All About My Cute Kittens)

I now have an obligatory cute kittens board up on Pinterest which I’ve named, Aww Eetz Coooot. You can check it out and follow if you are so included. Here are some of the pictures that I’ve found and pinned to my board. Because cute kittens make everyone happier (even people like myself who would never actually have a kitten in their house).

This one makes me go, “Bawww.”cute kitten 1

This one just makes me laugh.

For all you peeps dealing with snow, this makes it all better, right?

Day in Dallas District Bishop Arts

This weekend Chris and I did some exploring of other Dallas neighborhoods. We decided to walk around the Bishop Arts District to see what we could see.

bishop street sign

There were a lot of cool signs and interesting architecture.

Also there was this guy with his feet completely turned out. Like you do.

One of my favorite stops of the day was the antique mall, full of some amazing finds. It was full, really full and kind of amazing.

antiques

The top left hand corner is an advertisement for how wonderful the kitchen space was in the new mobile homes. I’ve lived in mobile homes, space is not how I would describe any of them. The top right hand corner is of a rickshaw that had a fan and umbrella attached to it. The middle picture is of the front of a pinball machine. And yes, that is a picture of an old condom dispenser.

nerd antiques

These are my nerd finds. I loved the little book table (upper left hand corner), but it was kind of ridiculously expensive. The Star Wars movie poster was from 1980, and so awesome. And yes that is a signed photo of Brent Spiner. If I had a bigger place I would find some way to decorate with those old wooden filing cabinets. Such beautiful wood. Most interestingly I found a file drawer in another cabinet with an interesting label.

nudes

It was full of naked or half naked women. Most interestingly, they were definitely not photoshopped into perfection which I thought was cool. And yes, I giggled a lot I was not expecting to find such a drawer at an antique mall.

Throwback Thursday: Senior Photos (of High School, I Think)

Well, it’s throwback Thursday and I found some photos us girls took a while ago to commemorate graduating from high school. I think. Honestly, it’s hard for me to tell how old we are, because in my mind we always look like that. Except for the bad hair days, those just don’t exist in my memory. These photos always make me laugh because I remember the day quite vividly and we had so much fun and then they turned out like album covers to a band we never had. Oh man, we thought we were being so cool with our Charlie Angel’s poses.

My sister took most of the photos, she did a great job. Though she really could have used a production assistant. Not the best director.

“Jami, you look uncomfortable.” Was her note to me.

This after I had climbed over and among the rocks, lying down on them in the creek bed trying to get the pose she wanted. I said through gritted teeth, “That’s because I am uncomfortable.”

A Walk in the Park, A Garden, and a Rocket

After our recent move, Chris and I decided to do a little bit of exploring. There was is a Japanese Garden with a gazebo structure, that is picture perfect. Plus, on our walk we saw this creepy almost life sized Santa staring at us for an upstairs window.

photo 3

At the park is a playground, with a structure shaped like a rocket, a not-open-for-the-season fountain, and a tennis and basketball court. The pond is rather large, houses ducks, and makes for a great walk.

We’ve taken my nieces there and they all love it. But who wouldn’t love a slide that comes out of a rocket!?!

Nodds & Nends: Book Wars, a Reminder, and Pretty Pictures

I haven’t done a Nodds & Nends post in a long time. But here are some random things I want to share. Please check out the links below for some more internet funs and finds.

Recently I was browsing through Freshly Pressed here on WordPress and stumbled across a wonderful blog called The Book Wars. You should check them out. It is four book warriors who write reviews and discuss books in their posts. I got drawn in by one of their Cover Wars where to definitely judge the book by the cover. You can check out this one for a fun read on the different covers for Cinder by Melissa Meyer.

Don’t forget to vote for my friend Pierce and his dream job. He only has a few days left to garner votes, and every single one helps! You have to set up a profile so you can vote every day, but there were a lot of problems with hackers before, so it is worth it and then Pierce gets a chance at his dream job!

First a friend on Facebook posted to her and then I saw her photos popping up on Pinterest. Check out the fairy tale photography of Margarita Kareva. The White Wolf is my favorite. Stunning. Simply stunning works of art.

Wedding Pictures and the TARDIS on a Cake

Last weekend Chris and I got married! (Yes, I decided to take the Texas State Bar and get Married in the same year because I’m an overachiever, and a little crazy.) Our wedding day was a whirl wind, full of sunshine, rain, and Kevin Allison. Some of you may recognize the name of the man who runs the podcast Risk! as well as live shows of the same and a storytelling company in New York City. Kevin Allison was our officiant! He did an awesome job and if you haven’t listened to his podcast yet, you must! It is amazing, where people tell true stories they never thought they’d share.

I’m also extremely thankful for my photographer, who capture some brilliant moments as the day is a complete blur in my memory. Kathleen Gray is a family friend who started Eternal Fotography last year. She and her family are moving to the North Dallas area later this year. Kathleen also shoots such sessions as newborn portraits, Mother’s and Father’s Day portraits, and headshots. Kathleen was a great calming portion of a chaotic day and I want to give her a shout out and send some traffic to her blog. Below is my favorite picture from the day and you can click on it to see more pictures from our wedding including my bridal cake with a TARDIS topping and the wedding attendants posing with paper mustaches and top hats or you can click on Chris and Jami’s Beautiful Backyard Wedding.

If you head over to Eternal Fotography to look at the pictures please leave a comment. Ten comments earns me a little prize (an 8X10 printed photo). Furthermore, I would love to give back to Kathleen and Eternal Fotography for their wonderful addition to our special day.

Bizarrely Amazing Famous Photo Recreations with Malkovich

Sandro Miller and John Malkovich collaborated on a photography series where they recreated some famous photos. Malkovich did an amazing job portraying different genders and ethnicity as he modeled for Miller. The essence of each famous photo is capture brilliantly and in one or two I did a double take that it wasn’t the same photo twice. To see all of them check out the original posting on Bored Panda.

Disney Princess Cosplay and Costumes

Alice in Wonderland and other Disney cast members by deviantArt photographer Jarod Mitchell Photography.  Jarod works for Disney and does a great job taking photos of the cast.

After viewing her Corpse Bride cosplay I did a little more digging on Malro-Doll’s deviantArt page and discovered so much goodness that I had to post some more of her stuff.

BelleEtoile on deviantArthas some lovely cosplay pictures of her as her deviantArt name sake Belle. Photos by Paolo Cellammare.
